One of CTTC’s coolest functions is its work to preserve, recover, and restore to regular practice techniques that have been lost or which were thought to be lost, and these hats are an example of just such a project. Made from knotted pile on a handwoven fabric framework and using other looping and knotting techniques throughout, hats like these were of major significance in the Wari culture.
These amazing textiles are made by hand in a variety of CTTC’s member associations, using yarn that is spun by hand with drop spindles in the traditional Peruvian method stretching back thousands of years, and dyed by hand with natural dyes using sustainable practices and materials local to the Andes of the Cusco region.
